None of us plan to die and leave young children, but it does occasionally happen. That’s upsetting and disrupting enough, without adding financial burdens due to lack of planning.

If parents die before their children are grown up, then it’s not up to the family to decide what happens to the children. It’s up to the Local Authority to make that decision, and the decision they make might not be what the parents or the family would wish.

Therefore, it’s important for parents with young children to write a will so you can specify guardians (and reserve guardians if required) who you know would do the best job of looking after their children and also someone to manage a trust fund for their inheritance, until the children are old enough to manage themselves.

Wills are not just for old people to organise, they are an important part of organising finances and security for young families too.
